The Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) held the APEC Workshop on Cleaner and More Efficient Operation of the Fossil Energy Industry on 3–4 December in Tokyo, Japan.

The workshop aimed to provide fundamental technical knowledge to policymakers and relevant officials to identify feasible solutions and advice by sharing current and potential future technologies and best practices that can improve energy efficiency in and reduce fugitive emissions from the fossil energy industry.
Discussions focused on new findings, expert opinions, real-world examples, and on-site situations ranging from mining operations to the transportation of coal, gas, and oil to improve energy efficiency and reducing fugitive emissions.

Through expert presentations, interactive discussions, and a technical site visit, participants gained both fundamental and practical knowledge and best practices among APEC member economies.
