APERC Participated in the APEC Workshop on Promoting the Application of Artificial Intelligence for Future Energy and Sustainable Development

16-17 July 2026, Ha Noi, Viet Nam

APERC researcher Yasmin Fouladi was an invited speaker at the APEC Workshop on Promoting the Application of Artificial Intelligence for Future Energy and Sustainable Development, held on 16-17 July 2026 in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.

During her presentation, Ms. Fouladi highlighted APERC’s research, including the 9th Edition of the APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook, to illustrate potential energy scenarios across APEC. She also presented areas where artificial intelligence (AI) could help manage the growing complexity of the region’s energy systems. Ms. Fouladi emphasised that the successful deployment of AI in the energy sector will require coordinated action across several areas, including standards, policy and governance, investment, and capacity building.

The workshop covered a range of topics at the intersection of energy and AI, including applications in renewable energy integration, smart grids, predictive maintenance, energy efficiency, data centre energy demand and efficiency, and the coordination of energy supply and demand. Discussions also examined the policy and regulatory frameworks, investment and public-private partnerships, cybersecurity, trade, and capacity-building requirements needed to scale AI applications in the energy sector. Participants highlighted the importance of regional cooperation, interoperable digital foundations, standards, and partnerships in moving from individual pilot projects towards scaled, bankable projects across APEC.
