At EMM16
The 16th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting (EMM16), under the theme “Forge an Innovative and Synergistic Asia-Pacific Energy Community for All,” took place on 10–11 September 2026 in Beijing, China. APERC Chairman and President Dr. Irie was invited to deliver a keynote speech titled “Policy Cooperation for Asia-Pacific Energy Development” during the Thematic Session on “Synergistic Cooperation,” one of the host economy’s three priorities.
In his speech, Dr. Irie outlined APERC’s contribution to policy cooperation in the APEC region. He emphasised accurate energy data and reliable long-term projections as important foundations for policy cooperation, supported by APERC’s energy data management, annual statistical and analytical publications, and the APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook.
Dr. Irie also introduced APERC’s activities supporting energy sustainability and security. These include tracking and analysing progress toward the APEC energy goals, capacity-building, and knowledge-sharing activities across APEC economies, and APERC’s Oil and Gas Security Initiative. The speech further highlighted APERC’s recent work on cleaner and more efficient operation of the fossil energy industry and clean and low-carbon hydrogen as areas contributing to both energy sustainability and security.
