In Tokyo, Japan on September 29, 2022, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Executive Director Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria and Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) President Dr. Kazutomo Irie jointly presided over the official launch of the APEC Energy Demand and Supply Outlook 8th Edition. This report provides projections of energy demand and supply for each of the 21 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies, which together account for roughly 60% of global energy demand.

Among the key findings of the Outlook, through 2050 energy demand continues to decouple from economic activity. Increased efficiency and electrification in the region will reduce demand as wind and solar generation grows. Fossil fuels continue to play a substantial role in the energy mix, but APEC appears to be on track to meet its energy goals. Future reductions in both energy intensity and emissions intensity will be required to meet the decarbonisation goals of the APEC economies.
